专辑介绍：来自德国的维金黑金属猛团Spectral的最新力作，自从在去年听过该团07年的作品《Stormriders》之后，我便对他们产生了非常强烈的兴趣，昨天看到这张新专辑的消息便毫不犹豫的找来听了。Spectral虽然不是一支被太多人熟知的大牌，但却是一支真正有着沉稳老练的实力乐团。他们的作品风格融合了维金和史诗的气质和意识，又具有鞭挞和旋死的速度与流畅性，整体而言又保持着极高的完整性和可听性，每一张作品都是精雕细琢稳扎稳打，所以作品质量自然不会令人失望。不过坦白相言，新专辑与前作《Stormriders》相对比，整体而言还是前作更得我的喜欢。Another band and another demo. Another band with another masterpiece unleashed from the pits of the rehearsal studio? Another neck-breaking epic-Black Metal piece rotating for ever and ever in the CD-players or in the computers of the metal fans from all over the world? To be frank: No! There are reasons why this first demo is not unique and describing it a masterpiece would lead far away from the shores on which the band started their existence. Even a newbie to the dark realms of metal realizes this obvious fact after some time of listening to the music. To those who are familiar with the compositions of a number of Black Metal bands, the elements of which Spectral lacks of spring to their eyes the very instance the songs begin to play and crystallize with every further played accord or riff.

There are indeed bands that play music far worse than those offered here on the demo, but this is really nothing that helps increasing the overall quality of the four songs of the debut. The riffs, the vocals, yes, the whole ideas presented, sound like they have been recycled from other bands and are nothing more, but a good overview of the metal scene at a specific time and from the perspective of the Spectral members. For the music there is no idea identifiable to which the band might move and where they might have their inspiration from, as the variety of influences is too vast to do a jigsaw with all the little compositional pieces, hoping that it would fit somehow and someway. The attempt to combine the various genres into a somewhat like “potpourri” of metal (pick something, there is one piece for everyone!), is likely to fail, not because the music is annoying or bad written, but the album sounds more like a sampler of bands trying to combine black elements with other genres and who all by pure luck found their way unto this record.
