专辑介绍：Skyfire的这张新专辑也是让众多金属乐迷们期待良久的一张新作，这张作品距离乐团的上一张专辑《Spectral》已经足有五年之久了。瑞典今年的一批大牌旋死乐团都没有让人失望，各个大牌的大作佳作真是层出不穷，作为瑞典新派旋死乐团中的一支大牌，Skyfire的影响力和实力都毋容质疑的，这张来势汹猛的新作承袭着乐团一贯优美动听的旋律和霸气十足的气势，相信定能让等待已久的歌迷们为之燥动不已。As far as melodic death metal goes, particularly the power/progressive variety that was big at the same time but outside of the Gothenburg scene, the most ambitious and musically viable band out there is Skyfire. Many make claims that they ripped of their sound from Children of Bodom, but a careful analysis of the lyrical and musical content indicates that the two are quite different. Far from being the vulgar and over the top speed freaks of their Finnish rivals, Skyfire puts an atmospheric spin on the fast and melodic death medium and tastefully paints it with technically oriented majesty. The two share some commonality of course as they play in the same general sub-genre, and it is likely that COB influenced Skyfire as they predate them by a couple of years, but in no way that could bring legitimacy to a copycat label.

For a self-release, this is pretty much as good as it gets, even when compared to an equally astounding production job as Dragonforce’s demo. It’s naturally not quite as polished as the LP that followed it, but it is good enough to pass for radio, if radio actually had the good sense to play stuff like this once in a while. The second and third songs, both of which made it onto the “Timeless Departure” release, are spot on in comparison to their later incarnations; even Henrick’s vocals are indistinguishable from the LP. The opening track “The Final Story” is more power metal than melodic death, despite the vocals, which is probably one of the reasons why it was dropped. Picture a typical high speed song by Heavenly or Fairyland and add screamed vocals and you’ll have it about right.

For people interested in hearing this material, it can be found as bonus track on the Japanese import version of “Timeless Departure”, which give you the perfect opportunity to compare and contrast the 3 with their more polished selves. The lack of difference between them is quite striking. This is the beginnings of one of the most underrated bands in the metal world, and in my opinion, the most underrated of and the greatest to the melodic death genre.
